Preliminary BC Explorer Route
The BC Explorer route (see map) has a pretty face as it travels around British Columbia and Alberta’s, Banff and Jasper but it is TOUGH! Be prepared. The route is 2,820 kilometers long and has 39,116 meters of climbing in it. The map below provides a general overview only. Some of the communities visited are: White Rock, Hope, Princeton, Grand Forks, Salmo, Creston, Cranbrook, Fernie, Sparwood, Canmore, Banff, Jasper, Houston, Burns Lake, Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof, Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Clinton, Lillooet, Pemberton, Whistler, Squamish, West Vancouver. Truly the BC Explorer route is as spectacular as it is challenging.
The BC Explorer route is designed to accommodate those racers who do not have the time to tackle the the challenges of the Tour of British Columbia but would like something longer than the BC Contender. It also serves as an excellent bridge for those racers who complete the BC Contender in 2014 and have their goals set on completing the Tour of BC in the future. At slightly more than 2,800 kilometers it is possible for a soloist to finish in 7 days or less while teams should have an easier go at keeping their challenge to a one week addition to their racing schedule.
